Highlanders Pre-Season Thread
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:35, GMT+6 »
So this is the one for the Highlander fans to get stuck in to.

There's a lot to talk about. Hoeata is recovering well from his injury and is in high spirits. Ran in to Bekhuis on New Year's and he was a really nice, polite fella. Even after a few jars. He is also huge. Massive huge. I haven't sorted my man crush for the coming season yet, but he's a contender.

Firstly we'll start with an article on Hore returning to his home franchise and his thoughts on being able to go to his local pub and not get given a ribbing for being a Hurricane:

Here's a couple of images for Penny to see how the boys look in Highlanders colours (links are for Facebook):

Looks better than the black and yellow, that's for sure.  :icon_wink:

<insert asterix and obelix style swearing here>  Th-anks for reminding me of how suckful the canes management are and that the canes have no freaking team this year!  Pesky virtual big brother.

I did however take the time to look at the pictures ;-)

I'm hoping having the brand new stadium (Forsyth Barr) with better changing rooms will give the boys a mental boost and make for enhanced team effort/results. In any event, I'm happy to get back to rugby.  :D

Righteo, the Highlanders are really active on their Facebook fan page and pumping things like wallpapers and images out through it.

But, for those that have liked them (Penny, I know you have...  :icon_wink: ), tomorrow they are starting a competition for a white Highlanders Training jersey signed by Whopper. Thought I'd bring it up so we can hit it hard and maybe bring the jersey to a KR member. The suggestion of the comp has already got 271 'likes', so it's going to be tough.

Back to what you were doing people.  :icon_widegrin1:

The link you're after Pennz: https://www.facebook.com/HighlandersFB

The details of the comp:
"Alright fans as promised we are going to give away a rare white training jersey signed by Whoppa himself!
We don't just give these out to anybody, so the winner needs to be a true fan.
All we want you to do is post a picture of yourself in your Highlanders supporters gear right here on this very page.
Best pic wins! Simple as that.
A couple of pointers: don't post photos that you have posted in previous comps and be inventive.
Entries close and the winner will be announced this Friday at 3pm.
Cheers and good luck!
*Entries restricted to NZ."

Looking forward to Penny's entry!  :icon_WZ-5:

Unfortunately that's not a Highlanders top, rather the provincial top.

Get in to the spirit Pennz! Wrap it around you with... ahem...  :icon_WZ-5: Take a photo and send it in. If you win, I'll pay for shipping to Lockie.  :icon_wink:

Yes, it appears my natural ability to avoid photographs has come back to haunt me. Many a time have I been in Speights and Highlander gear (overalls, jerseys, facepaint, beer boxes, etc), yet not a photo to be found. Looks as though my pride is in my heart, and not on Facebook, preventing me from entering the competition. I am actually rather proud of that.  :icon_widegrin1:

Yes, it appears my natural ability to avoid photographs.

You totally posed for Jaden! I think it's probably your aversion to facebook tags that's hindering you, rather than lack of photos!

Strathie, That's very nice of you, thinking me in the hinterlands. However, if Pennz wins she should wear it herself (Or, let Jaden or Felicity do it if it will fit) It would be good training for disgruntled Cane/new Clan fans/ :D

I wish the Highlanders would get their web site fixed, so you can get info or order stuff. They are saying it will be up by 1 February.  :ohoh:

Lockie - I have successfully brainwashed my children ;-) no one is wearing a highlanders jersey in my house! ;-)

What are you wanting to get from the highlanders website?  Does champions.co.nz have it?

No, they (Champions) don't seem to have any Highlander clothing stuff. The tattoos (phony) are nice though. I was looking for a T Shirt to wear to the Gym.  Also, I'm hoping the Highlander web site will have some new strip stuff when they finally get it up.   :pope:
