Just watched the video and my thoughts:

Music and action worked well; made the rugby half interesting.
Real quality rugby must have been in short supply as many plays were repeated
many plays were repeated
A surprising number of alternate strips were used by teams.  Who was that in the bright yellow?
Appropriate that the last shot was of a drop goal.

Yes rugby circa 2009.

Nope... not 1 bit... The Boks were woefull at best and this last half of the season is best forgotten quickly... cricket has been woefull as we have been hammered by the pomms and the weather... now for the tests... where the pomms' chances are even better than the short stuff... woefull...

Thank God it's almost time for the Dakar rally raid in South America... Perhaps Geniel De Villiers can defend his crown... Gossip is that the Dakar will be returning to Africa next year... Southern Africa to be precise... Hmmm.... can't wait... For that I'll make a trip up north to go watch it on course no 2 ways about it.

Seriously cool stuff pennz... that is the dream of most off-road racers... To do the Dakar... pinnacle of off-road racing... It is gruelling, hell, magic, terrifying, exhilarating... you name it. I reckon it is the single most difficult sporting event in the world...

I would so give my hmmmm... al lot... to be on one of the support teams (which also do the race as your cousin did) and follow the competitors... Average of about 600km per day through some of the toughest terrain imaginable. The only thing tougher that I know of was the Camel trophy... that was just insane...

I sure as well hope the Dakar returns to Africa where it belongs... man it's frigging awesome...

Race was traditionally run from Paris to Dakar, used to be called the Paris Dakar rally a while back and then they started playing with the starting venue and it moved to Lisbon in Portugal. Once the had a Cape to Cairo and then the security issues in NW Africa made it unsafe for drivers, journos, support vrews and officials (Mauritania I think)... But the race has always been held in the desert with the sand and the dust... integral part of Africa... racing through the Sahara desert... The one in South America is ok... but it is not the same... it lacks that african spirit.

The chap who died 2 years ago is a Saffa from Durban or Pietermaritzburg... Symonds. Year before that an Australian (can't remember his name right now) died on the bikes.

Just log onto the Dakar website... all the info is there

By team

NZ, good tour even by their high standards, good to see some new talent as well the old. Mils was just fantastic. Although this imho team has not the individual class of previous sides, the collective strength is there without doubt. They will do well with players like Franks coming through. I still think they lack a specialist lock and hooker. Williams back will help, but in the backs too I wonder why Donald keeps getting picked. Anyways well done

Oz, I think Deans is doing a pretty good job. He is sorting out the front row finally and the backs are always handy. I think come rwc, they will be very good.

SA, they are knackered no doubt, we didnt see the best from them. They got beat up front in the scrums and lineouts. Some very good flankers coming through, but tactically weak. They have proven they have the players, but I think they are spent for now.

Ady told me when in NZ to try the Whine and the Arti-chokes
